POLYGRAPHIC INDUSTRY, an industry for the production of various types of printed materials (newspapers, books, magazines, letterheads, calendars, etc) and stationeries (exercise books, notebooks, etc). In Ufa, printing houses were opened in 1801 by the decree of Yekaterina II, and in the late 60s — N.K.Blokhin. By 1893, there were the following printing houses: Gubernskaya, M.Gran, Pechat owned by N.O.Delinsky, Pechatnya owned by N.K.Blokhin; tipolitographs: I.S.Perov and Co. owned by N.A.Bezborodova, V.K.Shleger, the Parovaya tipolitograph owned by I.P.Zaykova, etc; in Birsk — the Pechatnya tipolitograph owned by Kibardina and Co., a printing house owned by P.V.Ikonnikov, etc; in Sterlitamak — printing house owned by A.Busygi, etc. In 1918, nationalized. In 1922, the printing houses of Ufa were merged into the Oktyabrsky Natisk printing house. In the 1960s, there were 55 editorial offices of the city and rural newspapers, 55 printing companies, etc. In 2018, the industry is represented by the Bashkortostan, Belaya Reka, Kitap, etc publishing houses. Training of specialists for P.i. is conducted by Bashkir State Pedagogical University, Ufim. Prof. College, etc.
