INSITUTE FOR METAL SUPERPLASTICITY PROBLEMS of RAS
INSITUTE FOR METAL SUPERPLASTICITY PROBLEMS of RAS, a federal state-financed scientific institution. Located in Ufa. Established in 1985. The Institute has interdepartmental research and educational centres “Nano-materials and Superplasticity” (jointly with USATU), “Physics and Technology of Polycrystalline Materials” (jointly with BSU) and others. It provides postgraduate education and incorporates a Dissertation Defence Board. Main activities: advanced studies in material science, development of methods for obtaining ultra-fine grain and nano-structured materials; development and implementation of resource-saving technologies for the manufacture of industrial alloys, intermetallic compounds and ceramics using the superplasticity effect, etc. The scientists of the Institute have developed technologies for the manufacture of titanium alloy hollow blades for fans to be used in prospective new generation aircraft engines PD-14, isothermal rolling and rotational drawing of axially symmetrical items, die-pressing of pistons for internal combustion engines, the manufacture of spherical high-pressure vessels employing the method of superplastic mould pressing and pressure welding, multi-layer hollow structures, discs for automotive wheels, etc. These developments have been implemented at Beloretsk Metllargical Plant, Gidravlika Enterprise, Kumertau Aviation Production Enterprise, ODK–Ufa Motor-Building Production Association and other companies. The Institute publishes The Letters on Materials journal.
