THE ORIGIN OF THE BASHKIR PEOPLE: ETHNIC COMPOSITION, HISTORY OF SETTLEMENT, monograph by R.G.Kuzeyev (Moscow, 1974). The work on the research results of archaeology, ethnology, Bashkir linguistics, with the utilization of written historical sources, materials of expeditions, collected by the author and other researchers. It consists of 3 sections and an annex. Section Main aspects of historical and ethnographic research of the ethnic history of the Bashkir people contains materials on the historiography and source studies of the problems of ethnogenesis of Bashkirs, etc. Section Ethnic history of Bashkir tribes provides the characteristic of tribal composition, the history of settlement of the key geographical groups of Bashkirs in the 17th—19th centuries and the tribes, included in them. Section The origin of Bashkirs and the formation of the Bashkir nation describes the ethnic processes that took place in the South Urals in the 2nd half of the 1st millennium AD—the 16th century; 5 main phases of ethnogenesis of the Bashkir people were identified, etc. The Annex contains maps, diagrams, and tables. The description of the material is based on the Turkic theory of Bashkirs origin. The monograph was awarded the State Prize of the RB in the field of science and technology (1999).
