WHEAT
WHEAT, a plant genus of the Gramineae family. There are about 30 wild and cultural species known. Soft W. and hard W. (winter and spring forms) are being cultivated in the RB. Winter W. is mostly grown in the south forest-steppe zone and pre-Ural steppe
zone, hard spring W. — in pre-Ural and trans-Ural steppe zones, soft spring W. — in all the agricultural zones. Sown by narrow-row, row and string methods, seeding rate for winter W. according to traditional technology — 4.5—5.0 million pieces per 1 ha, deep seeding of seeds — 4.0—6.0 cm, spring W. — 4.5—5.0 and 4.0—6.0 cm, respectively. The highest yield of winter W. of Bezenchukskaya 380 variety amounted to 44.2 Cwt/ha (Kaltasinsky variety test site, 2007), of spring W. of Ekada 70 variety — 53,5 Cwt/ha (Duvansky variety test site, 2008). Varieties of winder W. Bezenchukskaya 380, Lyutestsens 9, etc; soft spring W. Bashkir 24, Bashkir 26, Salavat Yulaev, etc; hard spring W. Bashkir 27, Nik, Kharkovskaya 46, etc, bred by the selection breeders of the Republic are allowed for use in the RB.
