CORACIIFORMES
CORACIIFORMES, an order of birds. There are more than 10 families knows, with about 200 species. In the RB there are
3 species from 3 families (Coraciidae, Alcedinidae, and Meropidae). They are migratory birds of small (halcyon with body length up to 19 cm, body mass up to 25–45 g) and average (roller with body length up to 34 cm and body mass up to 100–190 g) sizes. They have a characteristic bright coloring of plumage. They eat insects, mollusks, and spiders. Rollers also eat frogs, lizards, birdlings, small rodents, and berries. The kingfisher eats aquatic invertebrates, small fish, and frog larvae. They inhabit sparse forests, steppes mostly of Bashkir piedmont of the Urals and the Bashkir Trans‑Urals. Rollers are included in The Red List of the RB.
