RAFIKOV, Sagid Raufovich [19.4.1912, Derevnya Kaishevo of Birsky Uyezd of Ufa Gub. (Dyurtyulinsky Raion of the RB) – 19.1.1992, Moscow], Chemist. Associate Member of the AS USSR (1970), Acad. of the AS of the Kazakh SSR (1962), D.Sci. (Chemical Sciences) (1948), Full Professor (1951). Laureate of the Award of the Council of Ministers of the USSR (1983). Awarded with the Order of the Red Banner of Labour (1975), Order of Peoples’ Friendship (1982). Graduated from the Kazan Institute of Chemical Technology (1937). Between 1967– 84 Chairman of the Presidium of the Bashkir Branch of the AS USSR, simultaneously, between 1968–77 Dir. of the Institute of Chemistry. Founder of the Scientific School of Chemistry of High‑Molecular Compounds. Under the leadership of R., for the first time in the world industrial production of monolithic large‑sized blocks of organic glass was performed, and Plastobit‑2M insulation coating was developed and introduced for the pipelines protection from corrosion. Author of the first chemistry and physical chemistry of polymers textbooks for universities. Deputy of the 8–10th Sessions of the Supreme Council of the USSR and the 7th Session of the Supreme Council of the BASSR. The Academy of Sciences of the RB established an award named after him.
