RAKHIMOV, Kamil Yusufovich (25.8. 1900, Sevastopol— 25.2.1978, Ufa), Composer, Folklorist, Public Figure (music). Merited Artist of BASSR (1969). After graduating from the Bashkir Technical School of Arts (1929), he worked at the Bashkir Drama Theater and at the Republican Radiofixation Committee at the People’s Commissariat of BASSR. In 1930, he was purged. Rehabilitated in 1977. Between 1943—57, he worked in the folk office at the Directorate of Arts Affairs at the Council of Ministers of BASSR. He is one of the founders of Bashkir professional music and ethnomusicology. The artistic skill of R. is inherent in genre and thematic diversity, original embodiment of intonations and rhythms of national musical language. R. composed march Devoted to the Tenth Anniversary of Bashkiria for brass orchestra, Fantasia on Bashkir themes, Lyrical play and Scherzo for the orchestra of folk instruments, 2 concert waltzes for symphony orchestra, dance suites for a group of bayan players, etc. His works of vocal music are distinguished by lyricism and melodiousness, richness of expressive means: cantata Summer, Cantata of Friendship, over 150 songs and romances. An author of children’s plays, songs and choral compositions, music for drama plays, adaptations of Bashkir folk tunes and songs. R. recorded and notated about 400 Bashkir, Tatar, Russian, Chuvash folk songs.
