THE NATIVE TONGUE (Tugan tel), a poem. Written in 1957 by R.Y.Garipov. The epigraph to the work was taken from the lines of the verse The Mother Tongue by G.Tukay. The author’s underlying central ideological theme is seen in his reflections on the fate of the native language and thus, on the future of the nation. The basic message of the poem is to love one’s native language. The poet calls it a divine gift, the wealth of the soul of the people and the language of poets and singers. Literary translation into Russian was done by M.S.Alkin, A.L.Reshetov, A.G.Khusainov, etc.
