ROCK MUSIC

ROCK MUSIC, a form of popular music. In Bashkortostan, R.m. started to develop in mid. 60s: many pop groups were created (Blacksmiths of Thunder, Elves, etc), most of them were student amateur groups from the Republican universities. The repertoire was composed of the pop songs by Soviet composers and by the members of the groups themselves. The creative work of the bands, performing in dance areas, developed. In mid.1970s, music groups had to travel to other cities (Rock group DDT, leader — Yu.Yu.Shevchuk), some groups fell apart (Blacksmiths of Thunder), some were transformed into vocal‑instrumental ensembles (Alkaline Medium). The revival of R.m. in the Republic occurred in mid.80s. This period is characterized by increased interest in R.m., revolutionary and acute nature of the content, contests and festivals of R.m., rock clubs. The artistic activities of rock groups were distinguished by the desire to search for an individual style and to improve their performance skills. In the 2nd half of the 90s, the creation of band Dervish‑khan (A.M.Gabbasov) became an event in the history of the Bashk. R.m.; its music combined the intonational features of the Bashk. melos with the traditions of R.m. At the end of the 20th century, rock groups Year of the Snake, Zemfira, Lumen, Calypso, Something, etc became popular; concerts and festivals of R.m. were held. The range of the stylistic currents of R.m. in 2000s in the RB includes traditional rock and roll, hard rock, folk rock, punk rock, pop rock, funk rock, metal rock, jazz rock, etc. The stylistics of R.m. is used in the genres of academic music (R.H. Gazizov, S.A.Nizametdinov, R.M.Hasanov, etc).
