RUDENKO, Sergey Ivanovich
RUDENKO, Sergey Ivanovich (29.1.1885, Harkov — 16.7.1969, Leningrad), an ethnographer, anthropologist, archaeologist, geogra‑pher, hydrologist. Dr.Sci (Technical Sciences, 1945), Full Professor (1919). Awarded the Badge of Honour (1954). Graduated from St. Petersburg University (1910). Since 1921, he lived and worked in Leningrad. Between 1942—67 – Senior Research Scientist of the Institute of Archeology of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR. His scientific activities were dedicated to the study of ethnography and traditional culture of the peoples of the Urals, Siberia, Altai, etc. In 1906 and 1907, he participated in ethnographic expeditions in Perm, Ufa, and Orenburg guberniyas (ref. Ethnographic collections). Between 1928–30 — the leader of the Bashkir complex expedition, in 1952 — a member of the expedition of the Institute of History, Language and Literature. Author of scientific works Bashkirs: Experience of Ethnological Monograph. In 1930, he was repressed, in 1934 — released. Rehabilitated in 1957.
