SALAVAT
SALAVAT, a city and railway station in the RB. Located on the Belaya River, 160 km of Ufa. Territory – 106 km2. Population – 152.4 thous. people (2018). The economy is comprised of petrochemical industry, oilrefining industry and mechanical engineering. There are the following industrial enterprises: Gazprom Neftekhim Salavat, Salavatneftemash, Salavatmetall, SalavatGidravlika, Bashpromservice, Bitum, Akril Salavat, Salavatsteklo, Termoizoplast, MUP Khladokombinat, etc. Kuibyshev Railway (Allaguvat–Ishimbayevo Line) and the Ufa–Orenburg and Ishimbay–Voskresenskoye– Meleuz highways cross the territory. In S., there are: branches of the USPTU, Ufa College of Food Industry and Service, Bashkir Economic and Legal College; pedagogical,industrial,mechanical and construction, med., musical colleges; 3 vocational lyceums, 20 general education schools, 43 pre‑school educational institutions, Children’s Ecological and Biological Centre, centers for arts, children’ (youth’) and technical activities, tourism and local history; a City Hospital, OOO Medservice, a dental clinic, Dermato-venerologic and Tuberculosis health centers. The city has a drama theatre, the Neftekhimik Palace of Culture, Agidel Cultural and Leisure Centre, Oktyabr Cinema, Central Library System with 11 branches, a local history museum, Agidel Folk Dance Ensemble, a municipal orchestra of folk instruments, 30 folk and exemplary groups, the Neftekhimik Palace of Sport, Salavat Sports and Technical Club, Sports and Concert Centre, 2 stadiums, 3 swimming pools, 4 sports schools, 2 churches, 2 mosques, and the Church of Evangelical Christian Baptists. The Vybor in the Russian language and The Salauat in the Bashkir newspapers are published.
Founded in 1948 as Posyolok Novostroyka due to the construction of the oil refinery, since 1949 Rabochy Posyolok S., since 1954 has its current status. In S., there are some objects of cultural heritage: the buildings of the City Council (1956) and the Neftekhimik Palace of Culture (1962).
