SALAM TARDZHUUMAN
SALAM TARDZHUUMAN (9th century), an Arab Merchant, Traveler. Between 842– 845, upon the orders of the Caliph Al‑Wasik of Baghdad, he traveled to the wall of the Yadzhudzha and Madzhudzha (according to some researchers, it was the Great Wall of China). T. was one of the first outside travelers who provided data on the settlement of the Bashkirs. The report on the journey has not been preserved, but information about it is available in the works of such Arab geographers as Ibn Hordadbeha, Ibn Rusty, etc. According to the accounts by Idrisi, the travelers, having journeyed to Khazaria, reached the Land of the Bashkirs and travelled through it for 10 days.
