SIBAY

SIBAY (Sibay Canton), the Bashk. folk song, uzun kyuy. First recorded by S.G. Rybakov in 1894, published in his The Music and Songs of Ural Muslims with an Essay of Their Everyday Life book. Lyric and drama song. Presumably, composed by Sh.U.Sibayev, Canton Head. Lyrics have the form of a monologue by Sh.U.Sibayev and is permeated with deep longing for the native land and love for Fatima, his wife. One of the poetic text variants is the dialogue between husband and wife. The S. tune is distinguished by a rich ornamentation and a wide range (teridecima). Characterized by a variable metrorhythmic structure and mode. The song is particularly expressive and dramatic due to its interconnecting vocalise (ornamental motif) between the parts. The S. arrangement for voice and piano was made by V.I.Vinogradov, A.H. Gabdrakhmanov, R.A.Murtazin and K.Yu.Rakhimov.
