SOLITON, Research Institute, AO. Located in Ufa. Established in 1955. Main activities: development, manufacture and repair of multi‑channel digital systems for data transfer through electrical cables and fibre­optic communication lines, radio‑relay communication lines, tropospheric and satellite communication systems; hardware and software packages for integral automated communication networks and survivable control networks with automatic channel switching; automated hardware and software packages for channelling devices and equipment for wide area communication networks, etc. The scientists of the Institute have completed more than 60 research works and 170 test and engineering works. As a result, over 600 items of equipment and instruments were adopted for serial production in the RB, RF and CIS countries. They have created equipment for radio broadcasting, packages of multi‑channel equipment with frequency‑division multiplex, measuring instruments, digital and fibre‑optic transfer systems. The Institute was one of the first in the country to use semiconductor elements, printed circuitry, integrated circuits, elements of fibre optics and optic fibres, fine‑ and thick‑film micro‑assemblies for certain applications of own design and manufacture, and so on. Implementation of new telecommunication technologies, electronic components, design and technological solutions in the developed equipment enabled them to increase 20 times the data transfer rate, to decrease 10–15 times the dimensions and the mass of the equipment, to improve its reliability and to reduce its cost. More than 170 invention certificates and patents have been obtained.
