WEED PLANTS

WEED PLANTS, the wild and cultivated plants, growing of which on certain areas is undesirable. There are more than 30 thous. known species, about 2 thous. of them are common. There are more than 400 species of W.p., about 50 of them are common. Based on the criterium of prevalence on the territory of the RB the following species can be distinguished: occurring commonly among all types of crops (corn thistle, field bindweed, field sow thistle, etc), those growing in the northern (cornfield kale, satinflower, ball mustard, etc) and southern (Lactuca tatarica, yellow‑foxtail grass, green amaranth, etc) areas of the RB. Among the W.p. inherent for the Republic there are vitaminous plants (stinging nettle, shepherd’s purse, etc), de­ corative plants (mullein pink, cow‑wheat, etc), medicinal plants (henbane, melilot, sow‑foot, etc), nectariferous plants (melissa, dandelion, motherwort, etc), food plants (knotgrass, Malva pusilla, etc), and others.
