SPORTS TOURISM, a kind of sport which includes various sports‑related competitions on tourist routes and over distances of varying categories and/or degrees of difficulty. Among of most developed types of S.t. in Bashkortostan are water sports/boating, mountain, horse‑riding, skiing, hiking and caving tourism. S.t. has been developing in the Republic since the 1950s. In 1957 the first tourist club Nord was created in Ufa. In 1960, the 2nd All‑Russia Tourist General Meeting took place in Beloretsky Raion within the framework of which, there took place the first republican S.t. competition. In 1979, the Third All‑Union Finale Competition among pioneers and school students was held near Beloretsk, in 1989 – All‑Union Competition among caving enthusiasts near the Kinderlinskaya Cave (ref. Kinderlinskaya­Lednyova­Oktyabrskaya Cave System) and an All‑Russia Competition among tourist rescue services near Derevnya Tash‑Asty of Gafuriysky Raion, in 1997 and 2010 – Cycling Championships of Russia, in 2014 – Caving Tourism Championship of Russia, in 2016 – Hiking Tourism Championship of Russia. Since 2004, the annual Hiking Tourism Cup of Russia has been held, since 2012 there have been held the Yuryuzan All‑Union Sports Tourism Festival titled for people with motor disabilities. The first USSR Master of Tourism title holder was L.A.Lushnikov (1962). The national team of the RB was the champion of Russia in mountain sports (1992), water sports (2001, 2006–07, 2011) and in caving (2011, 2016). The Ural Tourist Club of USPTU was the champion of Russia (2002, 2005, 2018) in trail sports, a winner of the Russian Cup (2011), a champion of Russia among universities (2008–09) and students (2010, 2013) in parcour. The Champions of Russia: V.A.Kiselyov (1992) in mountain sports, A.I.Vakhov (2000) and M.A.Verkhoturov (2001) in water sports, D.V.Shornikov (2002, 2005, 2018) and I.V.Novosyolov (2003) in hiking, S.V.Novosyolov in skiing (2008) and hiking (2009). In the republic there are committees for water sports, mountain sports, skiing, hiking (all – since 1961), cycling (since 1978), caving tourism (since 1997) and also automotive and equestrian sports.
