STAROVA, Natalya Vladimirovna (15.8. 1923, Derevnya Polyana of Kursk Gub. – 26.11.2005, Ufa), Geneticist. Merited Acad. of the AS RB (1994), Dr.Nat.Sci. (Biological Sciences) (1974), Full Professor (1990). Merited Master of Sciences of the RB (1993). Graduated from Kharkov Rural Institute (1948). Since 1983, she worked in the Department of Biology and Cytochemisty, since 1988 – in the Biology Institute, since 1991 – in Botanical Garden Institute (between 1991–98 Dir.). She researched selection and hybridization of species of Salicaceae family, development of heterosis clonal biological model, genetics of forest tree plants. S. has proven the polygeneousmechanisms of Salicaceae heterosis, raised breeds of willows and cottonwood, researched the genetic structure of primary forest forming species, including the conditions of industrial pollution, determined the ways to improve forests by selection.
