STERLIBASHEVSKY RAION
STERLIBASHEVSKY RAION, located in the S.‑W. of the RB. Established on August 20th, 1930 as Karagushevsky Raion, it included some volosts of Sterlitamaksky Canton. Since February 20th, 1932 – the current name. Abolished on February 1, 1963. The territory transferred to Meleuzovsky and Sterlitamaksky raions. Newly established on March 3, 1964. Territory — 1,609 km2. Adm. centre — Selo Sterlibashevo, which is located 182 km SW of Ufa and 57 km W of Sterlitamak Railway Station. Population — 17.9 thous. people (2017).
In 2018, the area of agricultural lands amounted to 19.8 thous. ha (75.2% of the total area), including arable lands — 72.6, hayfields — 10.1, pastures — 37.0; forest area — 24.4 and surface waters — 0.5. Agricultural enterprises [3 Agricultural Production Cooperatives, 11 OOOs, 97 peasant (farmer) farms] specialize in the cultivation of grain crops, sugar beets, sunflower, meat and dairy cattle breeding, pig breeding and sheep breeding. Beekeeping is well‑developed. On the territory of the raion, there are: Niva Production Association, Sterlibashevsky site of GAU RB Sterlitamaksky Forestry. There are: OOO Sterlibashevskselenergo, Sterlibashevovodokanal, Sterlibashevsky Zhilishchnik, AF Pravda, GIP‑Elektro, MUP Sterlibashevsky Zhilkomservice, etc. Highways: Sterlitamak—Sterlibashevo— Fyodorovka, Kirgiz‑Miyaki—Sterlibashevo, Kirgiz‑Miyaki—Tyater‑Araslanovo—Sterlibashevo and Sterlitamak—Sterlibashevo— Tyater‑Araslanovo cross the territory.
In the raion, there are: Sterlibashevsky branch of Sterlitamak Multidisciplinary College, 48 educational institutions, including 10 secondary schools; a remedial school, 28 pre‑school educational institutions, a children’s activities centre, youth’ sports school, a sports and fitness centre; the Orlyonok Children’s Health Camp, a central hospital, an outpatient hospital, 28 medical and obstetrical centers; Palace of Culture, 25 clubs and 18 libraries. There are also 3 exemplary and 13 folk amateur art groups.
