TEREPHTHALIC ACID

TEREPHTHALIC ACID, dibasic aromatic carboxylic acid. The terephthalic acid production in Bashkortostan (the only one in the RF till 2016) was mastered at OAO Polief in 2005 through the liquidphase catalytic oxidation of xylene by molecular oxygen in acetic acid. Technical cleaning is performed by hydrogenation of water-soluble impurities. Used for the synthesis of polyethylene terephthalate. UPI developed a process for producing Т.a. by disproportionating of potassium benzoate from toluene in the 60s.
