TRANSPORT, a complex of vehicles; a branch of economy, performing the carriage of people and goods. T. consist of land (railway transport, road transport, pipeline transport), water (river transport, sea transport), and air transport; by purpose – public T. (servicing the sphere of circulation and population) and non-public T. (on-site relocation); passenger (public and individual), cargo and special; by type of traction – animal-drawn, bicycle, steam, gasoline, diesel, electric, jet transport, etc. The transport network of the RB includes about 34.0 thous. km of motor roads, about 1.5 thous. railways and more than 50 tram tracks, more than 150 trolleybus lines, about 1 thous. waterways, about 10.0 thous. km of trunk pipelines. The largest industry enterprises: GUP Bashavtotrans, The Bashkir Branch of Kuibyshev Railway, Bashkir River Shipping Company, Bashvolgotanker Shipping Company, Gazprom Transgaz Ufa, Transneft-Ural, Bashkir Production Group of Bus Terminals and Passenger Bus Stations (Ufa).
