SUDAN GRASS
SUDAN GRASS, a plant of the Gramineae family. Annual grass. Fodder plant. Heatloving drought-resistant shade-tolerant plant, heavy loamy, swamps and acidic soils are unsuitable for cultivation. The most favourable conditions for the cultivation of S.g. are in the Pre-Ural steppe and southern forest-steppe zones. S.g. can be cut 3 times in the RB during the early sowing period (May 10– 15th). Primary predecessors of S.g. — winter, legumes, cereals, tilled crops, perennial grasses. Average yield (Cwt/ha): herbage – 344, hay – 67, seeds – 25. Used for green fodder, hay, etc. The Lira, Kinelskaya 100, early Chishminskaya and other varieties bred by the selection breeders of the Republic are allowed for use in the RB.
