SULTAN-GALIYEV, Mirsaid Haydar- Galiyevich [13.7.1892, Derevnya Yelimbetovo of Sterlitamaksky Uyezd of Ufa Gub. (Sterlibashevsky Raion of the RB) — 28.1. 1940, Moscow], Political Figure. Member of the RSDLP(b) since 1917. Participant of the Civil War. Graduated from the Kazan Tatar Teacher’s College (1911). In February 1919, as a representative of the People’s Commisariat for the Nationalities Affairs he participated in negotiations with the Bashkir government on the conditions of accession of the Bashkir Army to the Red Army. In July, he issued an order putting an end to the campaigns against the Bashkir Rep. and the persecution of the Bashkir population by the Tat. military units. He opposed the state-organization policy of the Bolsheviks and advocated the autonomies of the republics. In 1923, he was expelled from the party and arrested on charges of anti-Soviet activities. After his release, he worked in the cooperative system of the USSR. In 1928, he was arrested again on charges of establishing a counter-revolutionary organization. Between 1930 and 1934, he was under arrest. In 1937, he fell victim to the Great Purge and was executed by shooting. Rehabilitated in 1990. During the investigation of a fabricated criminal case against S., many members of the Bashkir National Movement and CPSU, Government workers, cultural workers, writers, etc were condemned. Between 1989—90, it was proved that the Sultan- Galiyev Сounterrevolutionary Organization did not exist.
