SULTANOV, Bairak Zakiyevich (21.9. 1933, Birsk — 24.10.2012, Ufa), Mining Engineer. Merited Acad. of the AS RB (2002), Dr. of Engineering (1984), Full Professor (1986). Merited Scientist and Engineer of the RF (1995), Merited Inventor of the BASSR (1988). Graduated from the Sverdlovsk Mining Institute (1955). In 1958–60 worked at the South-Ural Terr. Geol. Department (Ufa). Since 1965 worked in USPTU. His research activity was dedicated to problems of directional and horizontal drilling and oil field mechanics. S. has established a theory of tool stability and dynamics in the process of deep well drilling, developed a screwtype pumping unit with top-head drive for highly viscous fluids. This unit has been implemented buy oil production companies in the RF and Kazakhstan.
