URAKSIN, Zinnur Gazizovich

URAKSIN, Zinnur Gazizovich (5.11.1935, Selo Maksyutovo of Orenburg Obl. – 3.3.2007, Ufa), Linguist, Writer, Public Figure. Acad. of the AS RB (1991), Dr. of Letters (1976), Full Professor (1983). Merited Scientist of the RF (1996) and BASSR (1984). Awarded with the Order of People’s Friendship (1999). After graduating from BSU (1963) he worked at the Institute of History, Language and Literature (in 1988–2002 as Dir.), simultaneously since 1992 — as the Academic Secretary of the Department of Humanities, between 1996–2005 – as the Vice‑President of the AS RB. His scientific research was dedicated to the lexicography, terminology, and phraseology of the Bashkir language. He developed the scientific principles of compilation of different types of dictionaries, compiled the Russian‑Bashkir phraseological dictionary (1989), dictionary of synonyms (2000), phraseological dictionary (2006) of the Bashkir language, etc; one of the compilers and editors of the definition dictionary of the Bashkir language (ref. Dictionary of the Bashkir Language), one of the compilers and editor‑in‑charge of Bashkir‑Russian (1996) and Russian‑Bashkir (in 2 vol., 2005) dictionaries, etc.

His first book of stories Origins was published in 1976. The author of novels Black Horse (2003), Caravan-Saray (2008), drama How to Cure Wounds? (2001), collections of novels and stories Bitterness of Wormwood, Struggle (both – in 2002; all – in the Bashkir language), etc. Between 1993–98, he worked as Chairman of the scientific editorial board and the Editorin‑Chief of Bashkir Encyclopaedia, between 1994–2004 – a Member of the Presidential Council of the RB, between 1995–2002 — Deputy Chairman of the Executive Committee of the World Kurultay (Congress) of the Bashkirs.
