URALTAU
URALTAU (in translation from Bashkir — “belt mountains”), a ridge. Length — approx. 300 km, width of the southern and northern part — 10—12 km, central part — 20—22 km, abs. alt. — 1,068 m (Arvyakryaz Mountain). Summits of height 600—1,068 m (Agastat, Barangul, Kurtashtau, Talishinsky Kamen, etc) are the most prominent. Arvyak, B. Ryaz, Vishneviy Dol, Kaga (basin of the Belaya River), Mindyak, Sakmara (basin of the Ural River) rivers, etc originate here. There is an altitudinal zonation of landscapes. The western slopes of U. are in the territory of Bashkirskiy Reserve, the north‑east slopes are located in Uraltau Wildlife Reserve.
