USPENSKY, Gleb Ivanovich (25.10.1843, Tula – 6.4.1902, St. Petersburg), Writer. Author of the following essays: Morals of Rasteryayeva Street (1866), From the Village Diary, the Razoreniye collection of novels, etc. In 1889, he visited Orenburg and Ufa guberniyas. His impressions about the trip formed the basis of the book From Orenburg to Ufa (1889), where the author depicted the tragic situation of indigenous people and peasant immigrants brought to poverty because of the entrepreneurs arbitrariness. Also, he opposed the beauty and natural wealth of Bashkortostan to terrible poverty of its population.
