FENCING

FENCING, a sport involving the use of the sword—йpйe, foil, or sabre. In Bashkortostan, F. developed in Ufa in late 50s of the 20th century. The first F. branch of the Ufa Youth Sports School (now the Sports Skills Development School of the RB) was opened in 1959. In 2011, Ufa Specialized Children and Youth Sports Schools of the Olympic Reserve No.4, 19 and 23 were united to become Specialized Children and Youth Sports F. School of the Olympic Reserve No.19. In 2016 it was renamed the Fencing School of Olympic Reserve. Training F. sessions are held at special sports halls of the Akbuzat Hippodrome, Globus Children’s Centre, Sports Skills Development School of the RB, the Republican Sports Boarding School No.5 (all – Ufa). A.N.Steshin became the first in the Republic F. Master of Sport of the USSR. (1964). High results at the international competitions were demonstrated by A.K.Akhmatkhuzin, R.R.Ganeyev, A.K.Ibragimov, R.R.Nasibullin, T.M.Safin, the masters of sports of Russia, International Class, I.V.Andreyev, T.F.Arslanov, V.R.Ayupov, A.S.Ivanov, A.A.Ivanova, A.M.Kamalov, A.F.Kuramshina, D.V.Petrov, R.M.Yusupov, and others. Since 1961, the F. Federation of the RB has been operating. A great contribution to the development of F. was made by the Merited Coach of the USSR R.I.Ayupov, the Merited Coaches of Russia L.R.Grushina, Ye.I.Yemelyanov, V.N.Prokayev, D.F.Sayfutdinov, S.I.Tikhonov, Yu.Yu.Hozikov, International Judges V.N.Yegorov, R.R.Nagimov, etc.
