KHALMAK-KYUY
KHALMAK-KYUY (literally – a leisurely, smooth tune), in the Bashk. music folklore refers to a melodic style; a genre of the Bashk. folk music. Kh.‑k. combines features of both uzun‑kyuy and, to a greater extent, kyska‑kyuy. Kh.‑k. is characterized by slow tempo, moderate intra‑syllable tunes (2—3 sounds per syllable), small range, recitative, melodious and song melodic styles. The basic principle of melodic development of Kh.‑k. is periodicity (repeatability of phrases). The songs have a clear, uniformly pulsating rhythm and a 2—4‑bottom meter, usually performed at the same tempo. Kh.‑k. include rural (The Tashbulat Village Tune), street (Our Street), joking (You Do not Love Me), labour (Goose Help, and Sermyagi Felting), epic (Kungyr‑buga), zimogorskiye and other songs.
