CHURCHES, Christian cult buildings. Churches were built from the 2nd half of the 16th century (mainly around Ufa and along the Belaya River). From the middle of the 18th century churches were built in mining and industrial settlements. Since the end of the 18th century they were erected from donations the nobility. By the beginning of the 21st century, the following stone churches have survived: the Nativity Church in Derevnya Byeryozovka, Ufa Raion, which was built at the beginning of the 18th century; the Kazan‑Bogorodskaya Church in Selo Verkhny Avzyan, Beloretsky Raion, which was built and consecrated in the 1750s, rebuilt in the 1830s; the Troitskaya (Trinity) Church in Selo Verkhnyetroitskoye, Tuymazinsky Raion, which was built in 1753–59; the Kazan Mother of God Church in Selo Verkhotor, Ishimbay Raion, which was built in 1788; the St. Nikolay (Nicholas) Church in Selo Askino, Askinsky Raion, which was built in 1802–05; the Mikhail (Michael) Archangel Church in Belebey, which was built in 1828; the Svyato-Troitsky (Holy Trinity) Cathedral in Birsk, which was built in 1835–40; the Petropavlovskaya (St. Peter and Paul) Church in Selo Kasyovo in Neftekamsk, which was built and consecrated in 1825–42; the Voznyesyenskaya (Ascension) Church in Selo Tabynskoye, Gafuriysky Raion, which was built in 1848; and the Skorbyashchyenskaya (Grieves) Church in Derevnya Andreyevka, Aurgazinsky Raion, which was built between 1830–67. In the 2nd half of the 19th and early 20^th centuries, approx. 80 brick, and 500 wooden churches, were built. By 1922, more than 720 churches and centers of worship operated in the Ufa Eparchy. By 1939, the only church, which held services, was the Svyato‑Sergeyevsky (St. Sergius’) Cathedral in Ufa. In 1950, there were 42 churches and centers of worship, which held services. Since the late 1980s, churches in the RB have been restored and new ones are being built. In 1993, there were approx. 90 churches and centers of worship, in 2013 – more than 250, and in 2018 – 367.
