CHURKIN, Yuri Vasilyevich (6.3.1935, Osinniki – 1.9.1998, Ufa), Chemical Technologist. Associate Member of the AS RB (1995), D.Sci. (Engineering Sciences) (1980), Full Professor (1986). Merited Master of Sciences and Technology of the BASSR (1989), Merited Worker of Petrochemical Industry of the USSR (1966). Laureate of the Award of the Council of Ministers of the USSR (1970). After graduating from the Tomsk Polytechnic Institute (1958) worked at the Ufa Plant of Synthetic Alcohol. Since 1962 in the Research Institute of Industrial Engineering (since 1973 Deputy Dir. for Scientific Research), between 1993–98 in the Institute of Petrochemistry and Catalysis. Scientific research is dedicated to the fields of kinetics, catalysis and organic synthesis technology, chemistry of phenols, aromatic polycarboxylic acids and anhydrides. The technology for the production of 2‑ethylhexanol (introduced at the Severodonetsk chemical plant), cresol isomers, xylenols, trimethylphenols, pyromellitic dianhydride were developed under the leadership of Ch. He organized the production of pyromellitic dianhydride at the Ufimsky Oil Refinery named after the 22nd CPSU Congress.
