SHARANSKY RAION
SHARANSKY RAION, located in the western part of the RB. Established on January 31st, 1935 due to the disamalgamation of Bakalinsky, Tuymazinsky and Chekmagushevsky raions of the BASSR. Abolished on December 12th, 1962, becoming part of Tuymazinsky Raion. Newly established on December 30th, 1966. Territory — 1,384 km2. Adm. centre — Selo Sharan, which is located 201 km W of Ufa and 26 km NE of Tuymazy Railway Station. Population — 20.3 thous. people (2017). In 2017, the area of agricultural lands amounted to 97.5 thous. ha (70.4% of the total area), including arable lands — 52.6, hayfields — 22.6, pastures — 21.9; forest area — 33.1 and surface waters — 0.4. Agricultural enterprises [3 MUSP, 5 Agricultural Production Cooperatives, 6 OOOs, 116 peasant (farmer) farms] specialize in the cultivation of grain crops, potatoes, sugar beet, sunflower and meat and dairy cattle breeding. Sheep breeding, pig breeding and fish breeding, poultry farming and bee-keeping are well‑developed. Oil fields are developed by the NGDU Tuymazanneft divisions under OOO Bashneft—Production. A veterinary station and a forestry are located on the territory of the Raion. There are: a branch of PAO Gazprom Gas Distribution Ufa, the Oktyabrskgaz raion gas operational service, the Sharan linear production administration of the OOO Gazpromtransgaz—Ufa main gas pipelines, the OOO Bashkirenergo Sharansky branch, the Energy Sales Company of Bashkortostan—West branch Sharan section, a meat and dairy plant, OOO Sharanskoye Moloko, etc. Highways: Bakaly–Tuymazy and Chekmagush—Sharan—Tuymazy.
There are: a branch of Tuymazinsky Agricultural College, 27 general education schools, including 12 secondary schools, a social shelter for children and adolescents (Selo Michurinsk), 32 pre‑school educational institutions; a children’s school of arts, Children’s Sports and Creativity Centre in Selo Sharna, the Sharansky Sports and Fitness Centre; 41 medical and obstetrical centers; Palace of Culture, 26 clubs, 24 libraries, a local history museum; an exemplary children’s brass band and 10 folk amateur art groups.
