SHASHIN, Valentin Dmitriyevich (16.6.1916, Baku – 22.3.1977, Moscow), Statesman. Laureate of the Lenin Award (1976). Awarded with the Order of Lenin (1959, 1966, 1971, 1976), Order of the Red Banner of Labour (1948). Graduated from the Moscow Gubkin’ Oil Institute (1943). Since 1932 at Ishimbayneft, since 1942 – at Tuymazaneft trusts. Since 1944 at the Geological Prospecting Company (since 1946 as Dir.; Sterlitamak), since 1947 the Manager of Bashzapadnefterazvedka Trust (Oktyabrsky), since 1953 Head of the Tatneft Association (Bugulma). Since 1960 Head of General Administration of Oil and Gas Industry of the RSFSR Council of National Economy, since 1965 the Minister of Oil Industry of the USSR. With the participation of Sh., the oil fields of western Bashkortostan were discovered and new drilling methods and technologies were developed and implemented in their exploration. Deputy of the 7–8th Sessions of the Supreme Council of the USSR. A streets in Ishimbay, Bugulma, Leninogorsk were named after Sh.
