ETHNOGRAPHIC COLLECTIONS

ETHNOGRAPHIC COLLECTIONS of Bashkirs, include the objects of ethnos’ material culture and its local variants of ethnographic groups. The E.c. of Bashkirs were established during the Academic Expeditions of 1768 — 74, ethnographic expeditions, by scientists of the 18th — 21st centuries. At the Russian Ethnographic Museum (S. Petersburg), there are 25 collections and about 1,600 items of the Bashkir ethnography (most of them collected by S.I.Rudenko), the collections of the objects of decorative-applied arts of Bashkirs, etc, compiled by the employees of the State Museum of Ethnography of the Peoples of the USSR T.A.Kryukova (1955 — 56), S.A.Avizhanskaya, E.N.Kotova and L.M.Loyko (1980). At the State Historical Museum (Moscow), there are materials, collected during the expedition of V.N.Belitzer, on the arts and crafts and everyday life of Bashkirs (24 items); at the Toy Museum (Sergiyev Posad), there are children’s toys. At the Museum of Anthropology and Ethnography named after Peter the Great (S. Petersburg), there are 8 collections, 101 items, collected during expeditions by P.S.Pallas (1774), A.K.Markov (1890), P.I.Nebolsin (1891), N.F.Arepiyev (1912), D.K.Zelenin (1965), etc. A bib decorated with coins is kept at the Hermitage (S. Petersburg); more than 5 items are kept at the Tsaritsyno Museum‑Reserve (Moscow). The collections on the ethnography of Bashkirs and other peoples of the region were placed at the Museum of Antiquities of Orenburg oblast (opened in 1897). At the Hungarian Ethnographic Museum (Budapest), there are 225 items and 86 photographs collected in 1909 by G.Mйszбros during his trip to Orenburg and Perm guberniyas. At the National Museum of the RB, there is a permanent exposition on the ethnography of Bashkirs. The E.c. of the Art Museum named after M.V.Nesterov consists of approx. 580 items. At the Museum of Archaeology and Ethnography, various household objects and various implements are displayed. The collection of breast decorations (17 items) collected by N.V.Bikbulatov, S.H.Dolotkazina, N.F.Gainullina is of particular interest. The Ethnographic museum at BSU (founded in 1985 by R.Z.Yanguzin) includes sections on cattle‑breeding, bee‑keeping, weapons, musical instruments, etc. Great input in the E.c. of the RB museums was made by Bikbulatov, M.G.Mullagulov, L.I.Nagayeva, S.N.Shitova, etc. E.c. are kept at the state, public, rural and other museums of the RB and the RF.
