YUZYKAYN (Mikhaylov), Alexandr Mikhaylovich [12.3.1929, Derevnya Yenaktayevo of Birsky Canton of the BASSR (now Krasnokamsky Raion of the RB) — 17.12.1996, Yoshkar‑Ola, buried in his homeland], a Writer. People’s writer of the Mari El Republic (1996). The Merited Cultural Sector Professional Mar. ASSR. Laureate of the Mari ASSR State Award (1988). Graduated from the Mariysky Ped. Institute in Yoshkar‑Ola. Between 1958—60, studied at Higher Lit. Courses under Gorky Lit. Institute in Moscow. Worked as a resource teacher at Mariysky Institute of Teachers Improvement, employee at Mariysky Research Institute, book publishing house, radio broadcasting studio, inspector of the Ministry of Culture of the Mari ASSR, and Chief Editor of the Onchyko magazine (all — in Yoshkar‑Ola). Wrote the following creative works: Bear’s Hole (1972), In the Dark Kingdom (1966), Yambatyr (1955), etc. In his novel titled On the Imperial Hill (1967) the author depicts the life of the Bashkortostan Mari people during the Revolution of 1917 and the Civil War, while in the collection of essays and stories titled The Burning Water (1963) he shows the working days of the Bashkir oilmen. The creative works of Yu. were translated into the Bashkir language.
