YURTOV, Avksentiy Filippovich [8.2.1854, Derevnya Kaleykino of Aktashevskaya Volost of Menzelinsky Uyezd of Ufa Gub. (Almetyevsky Raion of the RT) – 20.4.1916, Selo Andreyevka of Ufimsky Uyezd of Ufa Gub., now Selo Ilteryakovo of the Karmaskalinsky Raion of the RB], an Educator, Teacher, Ethnographer. After graduating from the Kazan Non‑Russian Teaching Seminary (1876), he worked there. Between 1883—90 – a teacher in Samara Guberniya. In 1891 – a priest at the Church of Michael the Archangel in Andreyevka; in 1895, he opened a 3‑class parish school in Andreyevka. Author of the first Primer for Mordva and Erzya including prayers and the Russian alphabet (1884). He collected and published Mordovian, Tatar, and Chuvash folklore, described the rituals and beliefs of the baptized Mordva of Ufa Guberniya.
