BURLYUK, David Davidovich (9.7.1882, Hutor Semirotovshchina of Kharkov Gub. — 15.1.1967, New York, USA), Artist, Poet. A leader and theorist of the Russian futurism. In mid. 1915 — early 1918, B. stayed with his family in Ufa Gub.: at the Iglino Station of the Samara-Zlatoust Railway and at the Buzdyak Station of the Volgo‑Bugulma Railway Station, where he got acquainted with the life, living conditions and culture of the Bashkirs and Tatars. In Bashkortostan he painted approx. 200 works. He created many portraits of the residents of the Ural steppes: A Tatar Girl, A Portrait of a Young Bashkir, etc. He painted sketches in the vicinity of Iglino, in Karan, Bayrash and Turesh villages of Buzdyak Volost of Belebeyevsky Uyezd. He actively participated in the artistic life of Ufa, where the largest Russian museum collection of B.’s works is located (37 paintings at the M.V.Nesterov Art Museum, 13 — at the National Museum of the RB).
