AKBUZAT
AKBUZAT (literally “a grey horse”) is a destrier, the ancestor of tulpars in Bashkir mythology. It appears in the epics, such as “Uralbatyr”,“Akbuzat” and some fairytales (“Uralbatyr”, “Zaynulla and Krasata” etc.) It was born in the sky, can live both on the earth and under the water, it does not burn in fire, does not drown in water and can destroy mountains and divide the seas by the kicks of its hooves. It is the owner of a damask sword. Initially Akbuzat was Khumay’s horse, then Uralbatyr’s and Khauban’s destrier. The image of Akbuzat is one of the main aesthetic values in the Bashkir worldview, it is one of the most common images in folklore, literature and culture.
