FOLKLORE ARCHIVES
FOLKLORE ARCHIVES are the stores of expeditional, personal data of scientists and other folklore collectors. There are F.a. in the Scientific archive of URC RAS, folklore cabinet of USIA, Bashkir State University on the territory of Bashkortostan.
F.A. of BSU was founded in the 1950’s by the Bashkir literature and folklore faculty chair of Bashkir philology and journalism. In different times student folklore practice was headed by
G.S. Amantay, R.N. Baimov, S.A. Galin, M.K. Idelbayev, T.A. Kilmukhametov, Kirey Mergen, M.K. Mingazhitdinov, A.M. Suleymanov, A.I. Chanyshev, etc. There are 145 volumes of typewritten, 53 volumes of handwritten texts of folklore songs, ritual and calendar poetry, nonfairytale prose of Bashkirs, etc. Laboratory of computer philology expanded the electronic scientific edition of “Folklore archive of Bashkir State University” (2016; headed by: A.A. Gallyamov, B.V. Orekhov). There is also a part of the folklore archive of philological faculty, BSU, that consists mainly of Russian folklore texts collected during expeditions around RB in the records of the laboratory. F.a. materials are in fundamental collections, such as “Bashkort khalyk izhady”, “Bashkir ethnic art”, “Bashkir ethnic proverbs” (1960), “Bashkir legends” (1969), etc. They are also used by students, professors, associated professors, etc. F.a. of Tatar folklore is founded by the Tatar philology and culture chair, BSU (headed by – I.K. Fazlutdinov). Archive materials collected in 1969–89 on the expeditions across Bashkortostan are published in “Tatar ethnic art”, “Tatar folklore of Bashkortostan: lore, legends, bylichkas, oral stories”.
F.a. of Russian, Bashkir and Foreign Philology chair, Pedagogical faculty, Sibay institute (branch) of BSU was founded in 1993 (by G.M. Bulyakova).
F.a. of Russian and other peoples have been accumulating also in the Sterlitamak branch of BSU since 1966. (founded by I.Y. Karpukhin). The archive reserves contain materials of expeditions to Kugarchinskiy (1967), Zianchurinskiy (1968), Alsheyevskiy (1969, 2014), Arkhangelskiy (1970), Gafuriyskiy (1975), Kaltasinskiy (1977), Yanaulskiy (1978), Mishkinskiy (1979), Ilsheyevskiy (1980), Blagoveshchenskiy (1981) districts of RB and the materials of combined expeditions to Zilairskiy, Sterlitamakskiy,Fyedorovskiy,Yermekeyevskiy districts of RB. A large part of the archive is published in the scientific works of Karpukhin (see “Russian children folklore in Bashkortostan” etc.) and in different collections. There are materials about Bashkir folklore at the Bashkir philology of Bashkir and Turkic faculty chair of the Sterlitamak branch of BSU. The materials have been organized, collected and systematized since the 1970’s. By Galin; the data collected in this period is a number of handwritten books systematized by year (up to 1980). Tatar and Chuvash folklore are being collected during annual folklore dialectological expeditions organized by L.A. Afanasyeva, L.V. Korotayeva, I.S. Mansurov, N.A. Mukimov.
There are materials of student folklore collecting expeditions at the Philology chair of the Birsk branch of BSU.
The archive of the Institute of folkloristics art and ethnology n.a. M.F. Rylskiy of National academy of science of Ukraine has materials about Ukrainian folklore collected in 1941–43 by the scientist from the Institute of ethnic art and of Academy of science Ukrainian SSR (f. 12, reg. 1, c. 3,4,5; reg. 2, c. 10; reg. 4., c. 2.).
The archive of the Finnish Literature Society (Helsinki) has field materials about Maris and Udmurts collected by U. Holmberg in 1911 and 1913 (338 and 156 pages respectively). The archive of FinnoUgrian Society (Helsinki) has the 43page preserved manuscript by Wichmann dedicated to the religious beliefs and customs of Udmurts from Bolshoy Kachak village, Birskiy district. The archive of Udmurt Institute of history, language and literature of the Ural branch of RAS has field materials about the Bashkortostan Udmurts collected during different expeditions.
