BESSONOV Alexander Grigoryevich (1848, Vyatka – 1917), Linguist, Ethnographer. After graduating from the Theological Department of the Kazan Theological Academy (1877), he worked as a Reacher in Vyatka Gub., in Kazan and in Orenburg Guberniya. He was fluent in the Bashkir, Kazakh, Tatar and Udmurt languages. One of the first researchers of the Bashkir language, the author of the The Primer for the Bashkirs, a collector of Bashkir fairytales. He was awarded the Small Gold Medal of the Russian Geographical Society (1909) for a handwritten collection of fairy tales, fables and legends. A street in Ufa was named after B.
