BURANGULOV Mukhametsha Abdrakhmanovich (15.12.1888, Derevnya Ilyaskino of Buzuluksky Uyezd of Samara Gub., now De­ revnya Verkhneilyasovo of Krasnogvardeysky Raion of Orenb. Obl. – 9.3.1966, Ufa). People’s Sesen of the BASSR (1944). Graduated from the one of the Kargalinsky madrassas (1907) and the Khusainiya madrassa (1911). Studied at Bashkir Ped. Institute named after K.A. Timiryazev (1935–37). Since September 1938, worked in the Bashkir Institute of Language and Literature. Made a significant contribution to the development of folklore and drama. The Bashkir folk songs (Ashkadar, Buranbay, Zulkhizya, etc) and their legends, epics (Ural‑ Batyr, Akbuzat, Idukay and Muradym, etc) and wedding ceremonies, recorded by B., constitute the Bashkir folklore collection of masterpieces. Author of plays Ashkadar, Bash­ kort Tuyy, Shaura, etc and epic works. Was subjected to political purges (1950). Rehabi­ litated in 1959.
