BROWN BULL
“BROWN BULL” is a Bashkir ethnic song, khalmak-kuy. First registered in 1907 by M.A. Burangulov in Venkhneilyasoso vil lage, Buzulukskiy district, Samarskaya region (Krasnogvagdeyskiy district, Orenburgskaya region) from Khasan Burangulov, published in “Bashkir ethnic songs” (1935) by S. Gabyashi. The song is epic. The poetic text is a fragment of “Kungyr-buga” epic: the heroine searching for missing Kungyrbuga composed the song along her way. The melody is based on a pentatonic; the chant has a 3partite measure, narrative, cantilevered; the structure is close to kyska-kuy, a 2partite chorus based on gradual movement; the syllable “hey” reflecting the call of an animal prevails in it. A musical adaptation of “B.b.” for choir and symphonic orchestra was made by A.S. Klucharyev.
