VIKAR László
VIKAR László (8.6.1929–12.5.2017), ethnomusicologist, folklorist. Professor (1980). His research is devoted to the study of the traditional musical culture of the Finno-Ugric and Turkic peoples of the Volga region. Together with G. Bereczki in the 1960–70s, he collected materials on folk music in the Volga-Kama-Belaya region, including 350 settlements of Bashkortostan: in 1974–75, among the Udmurts of Tatyshlinsky, Yanaulsky, and Ilishevsky districts; the Mari of Dyurtyulinsky, and the Mordva and Chuvash of the Bakalinsky district; in 1977, the Mordva of the Fedorovsky district of BASSR. Following the expeditions, the anthologies “Cheremis Folksongs” (1971), “Chuvash Folksongs” (1979), “Votyak Folksongs” (1989), “Tatar Folksongs” (1999) were released.
