GILMIYAZA, a Bashkir ethnic song, uzun-kyuy. First recorded by S.G. Rybakov in 1894, published in The Music and Songs of Ural Muslims with an Essay of Their Everyday Life book. The legend and lyrics of the song were  recorded  by  M.A. Burangulov  in  the 1920s. Presumably, G. was created in the 16th century. Lyric and drama song. According to M.A.Burangulov, G. is composed by Gilmiyaza, famous folk songs singer, and reflects the events of her life associated with being in captivity by the Kazakhs. According to K.M. Diyarov, the author of the song was a girl, Gilmiyaza, born in Derevnya Tagirovo of Karagay Kipchakskaya Volost of Nogay Doroga (now Derevnya Verkhnetagirovo of Baymaksky Raion), who was lost in her early childhood and, thus, grew up in a foreign country.

The song is presented in the form of a period stylistic figure consisting of 2 expanded sen tences with an optional repetition of the 2nd sentence. The song has a wide range (approx. 2 octaves) and is masterfully ornamented, including ascending and descending jumps, expressive pauses and register matching. R.A. Murtazin arranged the song for voice and piano. The G. melody is used in the ballet Mountain Byl by A.S. Klyucharev and in the Symphonic Poem by A.M. Kubagushev.
