RUSSIAN DRAMA THEATRE of the Republic of Bashkortostan, state-owned academic. It has developed since 1861 from various private theatrical enterprises and amateur troupes. Since 1930 – Ufa Russian Drama Theatre, since 1939 – State, since 1951 – Republican, since 2006 – its current  name. In 1998, it was awarded the title of an academic theatre. Awarded with the Order of the Red Banner of Labor (1981). In 1931—37, the theatre was managed by A.V.Andreyev Merited Artist of the BASSR.

The establishment of the stationary team of the R.D.T. began in the 20s of the 20th century, its core was made up  of the participants of front theatres, crews, amateur groups, actors and Stage Directors from various cities of Russia. In 1930, the members of the mobile troupe Druzhnaya Gorka of Bashprofsovet joined it, as well as the evacuated artists of Kiev and Moscow theatres during the Great Patriotic War.

70th – early 80s is a significant period in the history of the theater, associated with the work of G.G.Gilyazev (Chief Stage Director between 1967–83). New trends emerged in the creative development of the R.D.T., the repertoire was enriched with Russian classical works, productions based on the works from Soviet, foreign and modern Bashk. dramaturgy were staged.

The beginning of the 80s is a new stage in the creative development of the theater, associated with the work of M.I.Rabinovich (since 1985 – Chief Stage Director, since 1998 – Artistic Managing Director) who addressed moral, ethical and social problems in his productions. Creative search is associated with the establishment of other stylistics, mainly of experimental nature. The repertoire mostly contained the works of Russian modern and Russian classical literature.

The artistic and aesthetic objectives of the theater in late 20th — early 21st centuries are connected with the search for genre diversity, new stage forms and solutions. The so-called synthetic plays are created, built on the active interaction of music, plastics, original artistic design: Snegurochka by A.N.Ostrovsky, Black Ambler by G.G.Shafikov, Passion for Loss based on The Winter’s Tale by W. Shakespeare; various artistic techniques, including the contrary theatrical schools, directions; on the so-called differentiated approach to the artistic design (scenographer, costume designer, lighting designer): The Canterville Ghost by V.Dreyer after the namesake story by O.Wilde, Our Town by T.Wilder, Summerfolk by M.Gorky; on utilization of the expressive means of other types of art (cinema): Moon and Leaf Fall based on novelet Pardon by M.Karim; on utilization of modern technologies (3D projection, computer graphics): Akbuzat by A.Kortnev and S .Chekryzhov based on the epic Akbuzat, etc.

The famous actors are M.L.Kondratyev, G.I.Midzyayeva, V.V.Pribylov.
