RED AMBLE
“RED AMBLE”, Bashkir ethnic melody. First registered by S.G. Rybakov and published in the book “Music and songs of the Ural Muslims and their household description”. The melody is for dancing. The legend of “R.A.” tells about a dzhigit and his frisky horse – the winner of the horse competition. During one of the holidays called yiyin the horse owner put a barrel filled with kumys on his amble and played the kuray. The horse galloped all around the square without spilling the drink. Exited rich people offer a grand amount of money for the horse, but the dzhigit won’t sell it. The dzhigit is killed by those who want to take the horse, but nobody can catch it. The quaray melody played by the dzhigit is called “R.A.”. It has a 2part form. The alternative style and de‑ scending octave and major third leaps make the melody special; There are syncopes, as a sym‑ bol of allure, in the rhythmic line of the melody which are not common for Bashkir ethnic music. The musical adaptation of “R.A.” for the flute and woodwinds was made by S.K. Gabyashi.
