KUNGYR‑BUGA
KUNGYR‑BUGA, a monumental epic work of Bashkir literature. Written in a combined poetic and prosaic form. First recorded by R.G. Ignatyev and published in 1865 in the Orenburgskiye Gubernskiye Vedomosti magazine. Various versions of the epic poem under the same name are recorded by M.A. Burangulov, Kirey Mergen, S. Galimov and R. Shakurov. K.b. belongs to the cycle of Bashk. tales about animals (Akkhak-kola, Kara-yurga). The Bashkir ancient ideas about the sacred animal which brings happiness and wellbeing are reflected in the epic. Having married, the epic heroine leaves far from her homeland. She receives a brown cow as a dowry. A few years later, the calves of this cow headed by Kungyr buga leave the nomad camp. The owner follows them while calling them with a song. Animals lead her to her parents’ home. People named the road, along which the heroine reached her home and went back, the Kungyrbuga Road. More than 10 versions of the epic recorded on the terr. of the RB, Orenb. and Samara Obl. are stored in the Scientific Archive of the UFSRC RAS.
