MOSHKOV Valentin Aleksandrovich
MOSHKOV Valentin Aleksandrovich (25.3. 1852–19.11.1922), military figure, musicologist, folklorist, ethnographer, linguist. He made a significant contribution to the study of musical folklore of the peoples of the Volga-Ural region. Author of the collections of folk songs of the Chuvash, Tatar, Nogai, and Kyrgyz peoples “Materials to characterize musical art of minorities of the Volga-Kama region” (all collections: Kazan, 1894, 1895, 1897, 1901), which included 130 notated song tunes and instrumental tunes. In the collection “Melodies of Chuvash songs” (1894; first published in 1893) M. published 70 Chuvash songs and 7 instrumental tunes. The materials collected by M. are kept at Peter the Great Museum of Anthropology and Ethnography (St.-Petersburg).
