MUSEUM OF ARCHEOLOGY AND ETHNOGRAPHY

MUSEUM OF ARCHEOLOGY AND ETHNOGRAPHY of Institute of Ethnological studies of R.G. Kuzeev USC RAS. Located in Ufa. Founded in 1976. The first exposition was opened in 1980; current expositions of the museum are located in “Archeology of the Southern Urals”, “World of Bashkir culture”, “Bashkortostan people”, “Gold of the Sarmatians” halls. The museum funds contain archeological (more than 224 thousand items) and ethnographical (more than 3 thousand items) collections from the Southern Ural region. They are a unique compilation of historical and cultural monuments reflecting long-term contacts and interaction of different cultures on the border between Europe and Asia, history and culture of ancient and modern peoples from the Southern Urals. Bashkir yurts, utensils, household items, women clothes, jewelry, weaving or embroidered things as well as costume collections and household items of RB peoples (Maris, Mordovians, Germans, Russians, Tatars, Udmurts, Ukrainians, Chuvashes etc.) are significant objects of ethnographic archives. The museum was founded and its archives filled by R.G. Kuzeyev, N.V. Bikbulatov, S.N. Shitova, L.I. Nagayeva, V.Y. Babenko, F.G. Galieva, T.G. Minniyakhmetova, Y.Y. Nechvaloda, I.G. Petrov, R.R. Sadikov, etc. The museum building (built in 1900) is a history, architecture and urban planning monument dated in the early 20th c.
