NATIONAL MUSEUM OF RB. Located in Ufa. Founded in 1864. There are branches in Dyurtyuli, Tuymazy, Ufa, Uchaly cities and Abzelilovskiy, Baymakskiy, Belebeyevskiy, Ishimbayskiy. Salavatskiy districts. The museum consists of archeology, ethnography, local history, living nature departments, 34 expositional and exhibition halls (2019). Main activities: to compile and systematize, account and store different collections connected with local history, culture of peoples living in the republic. The Museum has more than 135,000 items in its collections (2019). The main part of the ethnographic collection is the items characterizing everyday life and culture of Bashkirs: traditional festive and everyday clothing, headdresses, elements of decorative-applied art and crafts, hunting equipment, etc. Traditional interiors of a Bashkir house and yurt are presented. There are unique exhibits, such as decorative chains made of a single piece of wood, leather items (quiver and bow case, hunting sets, vessels to keep kumys), kharaus (forehead bindings) collection and tastars (headdress for women), etc. An integral part of the archive is rare books, photos and documentary materials including those made by M.I. Umetbayev. The collection of paintings includes works by Bashkir artists. The main part of the numismatic collection is silver and copper Russian coins of the 16th-20th c. There are unique items: chronicles of Trinity church and a saber which, according to legend, belonged to Salavat Yulayev. N.m of RB has a wide collection of costume collections, interior things, Tatar, Russian, Chuvash, Mari, Udmurt and other Bashkortostan peoples’ utensil items. The museum building is a history, architecture and urban planning monument dated from the early 20th c.
