INTANGIBLE CULTURAL HERITAGE

INTANGIBLE CULTURAL HERITAGE is a term including the customs, expressive forms and images of oral traditions, language, knowledge and skills as well as the tools connected with them, object, artifacts and cultural spaces accepted as a part of cultural heritage by communities or people and transferred from generation to generation. The term was first used in the “International Convention for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage”, adopted by UNESCO (2003). RF have adopted the “Conception of preservation and development of intangible cultural heritage of the Russian Federation peoples for 2009-2015” and elaborated the pilot version of “Registration system of the intangible cultural heritage objects (ICHO) of RF peoples”. The Government of the Republic of Bashkortostan adopted the Law “On Intangible Cultural Heritage in the Republic of Bashkortostan” (2020). In order to attract attention of people to I.c.h. the researchers have been making a list of intangible cultural heritage masterpieces and have been cataloguing them electronically. The Research Center of Ethnic Art has been creating an electronic catalogue on the platform of “United portal of Bashkir Culture - ICHO RB”. They conduct science-practical conferences, such as ‘ “Ural-batyr” and spiritual heritage of peoples of the world” ‘ (2010), “Crossing cultures: intercultural dialog and cooperation in Eurasia” (2016), “Bashkir ethnic epic “Ural-batyr” and spiritual heritage of the peoples of the world” (2019) and others. Institute of history, language and literature has prepared “Materials for the Dossier to include Bashkir kubairs from the “Ural-batyr” literary cycle into the list of intangible cultural heritage masterpieces, UNESCO” (2013). I.c.h. of Bashkortostan peoples include epics, such as “Ural-batyr”,”Akbuzat”, “Baik” dance (see “Baik”) and other Bashkir ethnic songs, Mari dance called “Small rope”, Udmurt, Mari, Mordovian, Chuvash prayers in sacred groves (see Keremet), different rituals.
